May 6, 2012, Courageous #2, Paul, Phil. 3:2-11~ It’s fascinating how Saul of Tarsus went through a radical transformation that totally altered his basis for evaluating his righteousness, as well as the activities and the direction of his daily life. It gave him peace & enthusiasm. He we went from being confident in his credentials to being courageous in Christ. It wasn’t from adorning his shelves with accolades about his service and sacrifice. Come and see!

This was not a cry of defeat, but a shout of victory. In the original Greek text, this phrase is one word of 10 letters - "Tetelestai" - which literally means: "It is finished, it stands finished, and it always will be finished." That’s the tragedy of leaving behind an Unfinished Life: All of us have unfinished things cluttering up the highway of life. —the half-mowed lawn —the half-read book —the letter started but never sent —the phone calls never returned. But it can be much more serious than that: —the abandoned child —the job we quit in a fit of anger —the wrecked marriage —the promises never kept. All of us go through life leaving behind a trail of unfinished projects and unfulfilled dreams. How few there are who can come to the end of life and say, “I finished exactly what I set out to do.” Come and see the difference Jesus makes!

Jesus became tired (John 4:6), hungry (Matt. 4:2), & at times physically weak (Luke 23:26). Today we acknowledge Jesus became thirsty, for when he was on the cross he said, “I am thirsty” (John 19:28). The measure of his willingness to suffer is a reflection of the depth of His love for you. Come and See!

In somber ceremony he places his hands on the young animal. As the people witness, the priest makes his proclamation: “The sins of the people be upon you.” The innocent animal receives the sins of the Israelites. All the lusting, adultery, and cheating are transferred from the sinners to this goat, to this scapegoat. He is then carried to the edge of the wilderness and released. Banished. Sin must be purged, so the scapegoat is abandoned. “Run, goat! Run!” The people are relieved. Yahweh for the time is appeased. But the sinbearer is alone. AND NOW ON SKULL’S HILL, THE SINBEARER IS AGAIN ALONE. Every lie ever told, every object ever coveted, every promise ever broken is on his shoulders. He becomes sin. God turns His back for he cannot look upon sin.. “Run, goat! Run!” The despair in His perfect heart is darker than the sky. He withstood the beatings & remained strong at the mockery of a trial. Jesus watched in silence as those he loved ran away. He did not retaliate when the insults were hurled nor did he scream when the nails pierced his wrists. But when God turned his head, that was the first time in all of eternity that Jesus was not in full fellowship with the Father. “My God!” The wail rises from parched lips. The holy heart is broken. The sinbearer screams as he enters this new alone-ness. “Why? Why have you forsaken me?” Why did Jesus do it? Come and see!

Come and see.
March 11, 2012, , Last 7 Words of Christ from the Cross #2 - Salvation ~Whenever a person accepts Jesus Christ as his Savior, it is a miraculous experience. The spiritually dead is made spiritually alive. He is brought from darkness into light. But the circumstances that surround some conversions are sometimes more spectacular than others. The circumstances surrounding my conversion, for example, were far less dramatic than those associated with Paul’s conversion (Acts 9:1-8). When we consider the conversion of the thief on the cross, we have to admit that it was an amazing conversion, indeed! I. Jesus prayed for your Salvation. To receive it you won’t have to be looking back over your shoulder wondering if you’ve been GOOD ENOUGH - Jesus was PERFECT and he PAID the price completely....come and see!
March 4, 2012, Last 7 Words of Christ from the Cross #1 - Forgiveness ~ By studying the last words of Christ we shall learn a great deal about the true character of our Savior. The first word of our Savior on the cross is a prayer. Jesus’ prayer has 2 parts: a petition & a plea. Let us now examine the first of Jesus’ last words on the cross, which is a word of forgiveness which is ONLY found in the GRACE purchased by Jesus on the Cross. Learn this truth: "If you are going to BELIEVE in purgatory then you have to say that Jesus was either inaccurate or unfair by telling the thief he would be in paradise that same day." Come and see!
Dec. 11, 2011 - Clarity from Colossians 3 - # 2 Tragedy of Sunday Morning Religion, Col. 3:16-25 ~ The curse of 20th-century Christianity is Sunday morning religion. Somebody wrote these words: “They’re praising God on Sunday; they’ll be all right on Monday—it’s just a little habit they’ve acquired.” People of the world don’t expect us to be any different on Monday morning. The real proof will show up tomorrow morning, when you go to work, when you go to school, when you do your housework, or during whatever you do—that’s the test of what we believe. You see, this thing of worship doesn’t stop when we leave church. Come let us adore Him together!
